Here is one story that I wrote around Thanksgiving and Christmas time:
HOME
HOME
The leaves are all changing. Pine cones are scattered every
which way. Red, green, and yellow reflect their colors off the pond. The sound
of leaves crumpling underneath my shoes echoes through the wilderness creating
a feeling of solitude. The pine trees seem to reach up and touch the endless
blue sky. As I look around at the soil and the water, a feeling of sadness
takes over my heart. Everything is dry, and there are no clouds in the sky
(indicating that no rain will be coming anytime soon). The bitter cold shows
that winter is on its way.
My
family is at home decorating the tree with lights and beads, getting ready for
the Christmas season. They have set the nativity scene in its usual place on
the coffee table. As I walk through the woods alone, a sense of peacefulness
fills my soul. It is always good to take time to get away from the roaring
sounds of the city and the constant feel of being crowded into an apartment.
Oh, how I always love coming home on the weekends and feeling the warmth of my
grandmother’s embrace. Joy always comes to my heart when I see the smile on my
grandfather’s face as we walk through that squeaky door into the house.
As the
sun starts to slowly set in the west, I realize that it is time to make my way
home. But my feet just keep moving further. I stop and admire the sweet song of
the crickets for a few more minutes. How could such a small creature make such
a beautiful sound? My eyes start to close as I listen to the sound I have
missed for so long. The hungry growl of my stomach motivates me to start making
my way home.
The
steps that lead up to the back door creak as I walk up them one by one. I open
the door and the sweet smell of rolls suddenly brings a smile to my face. The
family joins hands to say the blessing, and then we all sit down and begin our
meal. There are so many memories about this house, and I hope there will always
be more to come.
Hope you liked it.
AMI L.
